Dr. Laichena, an acclaimed orthopaedic and trauma surgeon, graduated from The University of Nairobi School of Medicine. He completed Orthopaedic and Trauma residency training at the University of Nairobi School of Medicine,  the prestigious Global Spine Diploma by the AO SPINE, and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) by AO SPINE, and an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr Laichena has previously served as a departmental head at Embu level V Hospital and as Faculty for the COSECSA Residency program.

Dr Laichena is a faculty member of the AO Spine Global Spine Diploma and Adjunct / visiting lecturer at the University of Nairobi School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

He has focused mainly on surgical diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including the spine, and the surgical management of Orthopaedic, trauma, and spine care. He has also devoted substantial effort to medical student and resident education policy.

He is a member of the Kenya Orthopedic Association, COSECSA, AO Spine, SICOT, and the American College of  Surgeons.
