Dr. Sulemanji is an Assistant Professor of Paediatrics and a Consultant Neonatologist.

His career in Neonatology began as a Fellow in Neonatal Neurology at the Harvard Medical School, studying autoregulation in the newborn period and its association with IVH. On focusing on pathologies associated with brain injury, he extended his interest to study the pathophysiology of NEC as a Fellow at Boston Children’s Hospital. He pursued his Master’s degree in Public Health. He graduated from the program at the Harvard School of Public Health. He served as a voting member on the Institutional Review Board (IRB) panel at Partners Health, overseeing research at Harvard University. He completed his Clinical Fellowship in Perinatal-Neonatal Medicine at Penn State University and returned to Boston, where he was an Attending Neonatologist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

He relocated to his native country, Kenya, in 2018, with over 25 years of experience as a physician. He runs his private practice at Milestones Neonatal and Paediatric Consultants. He is an Honorary Faculty at the University of Nairobi and Head of the Department of Paediatrics at AAR Hospital.  He has extensive training in various modes of ventilation (conventional ventilation, HFOV, jet ventilation and NAVA), Neonatal – ECMO, Therapeutic Hypothermia for HIE, Neonatal care of the ELBW infants, both air and ground patient transport, in addition to routine procedures in the NICU. He enjoys his passion for teaching and helping and/or providing advice or consultancy to anyone across the board to help improve the standards of neonatal care in the country.
